That's Life

It's been a while since my last post.  I so enjoy posting on the Facebook "Blk-Art, History & Culture" page that I hardly have time to post on the blog anymore.  Blk-Art, History & Culture was very busy for Black History Month with a week long assignment at the Washington Park Library and a Film Screening at the MLK Library.  Had a wonderful time doing the 2013 Black Knowledge Bowl-in March working with SCD, The ManPower Group, Community Arts & Funk Festival and a host of wonderful volunteers!  The focus was on words-message music, poetry, spoken word & Rap. Of course we did collages.  The collages will be on exhibit at the African American Women's Center May 9th until sometime in July. The AAWC is located on 30th & Vliet, Milw. WI.

I've been working with Pathways to College as a facilitator for the after school program for the past 8 months and totally love working with the kids.  Teaching "Life Skills" has made me want to be a better "role model" wanting to practice what I preach to the students!  I totally love working at the gallery as well and have been able to see some wonderful performances at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts as one of the benefits of working at the gallery.  I think my favorite show this year has been "The Cooke Book" celebrating the music of Sam Cooke. I also got to host "Gallery Night" and local artist, Scott Boris who makes these wonderful wooden Bowls.  I will do Pathway's Summer Academy again this July for 3 weeks and have so many art destinations I want to share with the students.  I've also been invited as a chaperon to join the Pathways staff and students on a 10 day West Coast college tour/sight seeing trip, totally thrilled and looking forward to it.  San Francisco, Los Angeles & San Diego.
My schedule has been booked to the point I decided it was time to depart from the Brewers.  Yes after nearly 8 seasons it was time to move on.  I'm doing some free-lance stuff that I feel is a better use of my time and talents and gives me a lot of joy! I will also be returning to school-that's right, it's never to late.  As I am nearing 50 this summer, going back to school is now or never.  It is something that has been nagging me for sometime and I was sooooo tired of people asking me where I got Master's  Degree from!
Health wise, I've had a few issues, first with arm, it still is not completely healed. Then a couple of set backs that are still lingering, but doing all that I can to keep moving forward and take the best possible care of myself.  Hitting the campus gym as much as I possibly can and doing my best to eat as clean as I can.  I am learning to better listen to my body and what it's trying to tell me.  Doing my best to enjoy life, my family and friends and all those whose support make my life joyful.  Loving the African Hut-it's what I call the -not so new- spot.  It is home and I enjoy having friends over and working out of the at home office hut!
Is everything perfect?  Not by a long shot, but with the support of my friends & family and of course, with "GOD" with me every step of the way I am happy to continue this journey called life!!!!  I think Spring has finally sprung and I am looking forward to this summer and all it has to offer.  So I say to you "please be kind to yourself and others, celebrate the good, enjoy & be thankful for your blessings and be a blessing to someone else."
