Art Appreciation

So yes, it's been a while.  The blog is called I'm forty-something, but in less than a month I'll no longer be forty anything!  I turn 50 years old.  At first I was dreading the big "50", but now I am like bring it on!!!!!  As I've mentioned in the past, I've had some health issues.  I was on some medication that sparked a weight gain and then I fail and broke my arm and could not work out.  Things were not good people.  I could hardly fit into anything I owned. Everything was so tight I could hardly wait to get home just so I could get out of my clothes and breath!!!!!  I knew it was getting out of control so I made up my mind to get it together.  We are doing the "NO CHEESE" deal again for 45 days and I am back in the gym with determination.  We are on day 24 and I am half way to my goal already, feeling much better.
I want to say this-because I've preached it time and time again: no mater what, you must exercise moderation in what you eat and you must move around!!!! Thank goodness I continued walking during the time of the medication or it may have been a bigger battle.  But I was eating poorly.  If you fall of the wagon, just get right back on.
The photo above is me with my Pathways to College class in front of the Richard Hunt Sculpture "Celestial Conversation" on the Mount Mary College grounds.  We asked Artist, Brad Anthony Bernard (in the back) to join us, we first stopped in the Mount Mary Art Dept Studio to view and chat about the Mount Mary Mural project Mr. Bernard is working on.  This summer we are working on "Art Appreciation".  We've learned a little about Latin Art and went to a tasty Latin restaurant-Los Paisa-for lunch and last week we went to the Milwaukee Art Museum to view the "American 30/Wisconsin 30 exhibition.  It is a fabulous show and I encourage everyone to go! Visit www.mam.org for a sneak peek.  I also showed the students the Film "A Man Named Pearl"- they really enjoyed it.  Our next outing will be to the fabulous garden of Mrs. Helen Baylor, where she approaches gardening like a work of art!  It is all about "Art Appreciation" and all its wonders.
Yep, I still love working at the Gallery! Love it. However, the Gallery has been closed for a "face lift" the last few weeks and will reopen on August 8th, just in time for the "Morning Glory" art festival (Aug.10&11).  In the mean time, the staff have been attending the many art fairs in Wisconsin scouting new Artist.  I've really enjoyed this assignment and am looking forward to getting back to work in the gallery and getting ready to reopen.  I know I brag about the perks of working for the gallery, but during the run of "Wicked" I got to see it twice! Loved it.
I'll be returning to school as of August 5th working on completing my degree, but first I get to enjoy African World Festival (Aug. 3&4) where I'll be looking for more fabulous jewelry and some beautiful African fabrics.
Enjoy the rest of the SUMMER, be sure to look out for the homeless, it's been extremely hot and check on your elderly neighbors. Remember moderation, no matter what! Be grateful for your blessings and be a blessing to someone.  Smile it will make you feel better and someone else too!
