Being Busy

I can honestly say that August has been a very busy month for Blk-Art, History & Culture. It was "Festival Fever." 8/4th&5th Blk-Art, History & Culture, @ African World Festival, volunteering for the "Community Arts & Funk Festival.  On my break, "of course", I was able to hit the African Market Place, where I purchased those lovely bracelets I'm wearing in the photo above.  I've had that necklace for years and wear it constantly!!!!!
We then did a volunteer effort 8/8th for the "Washington Park Arts & Culture Day," then as part of the Morning Glory Gallery staff, I worked the gallery 8/11th&12th for the "Morning Glory Fine Art Fair."  I still love working at the Gallery! Then I volunteered at church for the "Vacation Bible School" and had so much fun with the kids! And then on the 24th was the "Wisconsin Stages of Art Exhibition," curated and hosted by the Community Arts & Funk Festival, at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.  I volunteered for that and was one of the "Artellectuals". It was a lovely evening and Brad Anthony Bernard, founder and director of the Community Arts & Funk Festival, did a fabulous job putting this thing together.  Many of Milwaukee's arts organizations came together to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Arts Wisconsin."

And let's not forget I did have a birthday on 8/22!!!!! It was great! A friend of mine sent me an "Obama birthday box" with all kinds of Obama memorabilia.  Although I love every single thing in the box, I especially love the Obama bobble head!  I make his head shake to agree with everything I say.  Then another friend took my Obama collage and made a special birthday card for me.  I love it! Went to see Natya Dance theater (an out door performance) and out to dinner.  Had the most delicious silky chocolate moose cheese cake (shutty, it was my birthday). Volunteered for the Boulevard Bash on Washington Blvd on 8/25, but only 3 hours.  On the 26th took my mom and 7 kids to Green bay to hangout for the day at Bay Beach.  The kids had a fabulous time, they had me in the bumper cars 5 or 6 times! Auntie Jody ended up with a sinus infection.  All better now and made sure in the mist of all this I made it to my free computer classes at the Washington Park Library to enhance my computer skills!  Will enjoy the day off on Labor Day, grilling with friends!

Blk-Art, History & Culture has been following up with new contacts and has made some more new contacts.  Lots of lovely people all working to enhance the lives of young people and art lovers.  I've got a lot of writing to do!!!!!
Blk-Art, History & Culture is happy to announce my collaboration with the Washington Park Library - Black Cinema Series - has scheduled a free screening of the Documentary film "A Man Named Pearl" on Wednesday, October 24th. This is the 2nd of five films I've selected.  I shall keep you posted on the others.  In the mean time, enjoy the rest of the summer.  I've already seen some leaves falling, which means it is time for me to start narrowing my choices for a new gym to workout at.  Yes, I've been walking and doing "some" ab work at home, but honestly, I've been really busy and missed a few walks!

As always, be kind, check on your elderly neighbors, give to the homeless, they could use a kindness every now and then just to remind them that they are human beings too and they matter!  Enjoy your blessings.  Support our President and be sure to vote!  Don't get caught up in the hate & ignorance.  Check the facts for yourself and make the best possible choice for you & your family!
