Here are a couple of photos from the screening of Sisters of Selma and the exhibit Sisters of Freedom. The cake was yummy and the exhibition was well received. The film paved the way for a very open and honest discussion. I want to thank everyone who shared their thoughts. Our next film, A Man Named Pearl, is set to screen on November 28th. As Always, the doors open at 530 p.m. and light refreshments will be served. Still working out the details for the Topiary demonstration. This is a wonderful film and everyone I've shared it with has fallen in love with it. Please feel free to visit Pearl Fryar's web site at www.pearlfryar.com where you can view photos of his garden or order a 2013 calendar.
Blk-Art, History & Culture is busy watering the seeds that have been planted. I do see some buds waiting to sprout, but it requires patients and follow through. Getting through some of the paper work and attending meetings is time consuming, but time well spent. The Blk-Art, History & Culture facebook page is up and I enjoy sharing inspiring information. It's been up for about 4 months now and it's growing.
I want to mention a wonderful exhibition I went to see at the Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University- Thenceforward, and Forever Free, on view through December 22, 2012. The exhibit explores issues of race, gender, privilege and identity and more broadly conveys interpretations of the notion of freedom. 7 artists are featured including works by Michael Ray Charles and Kara Walker.
I am sure we are all extremely happy to have the Presidential Elections over! Here in Wisconsin the population was mentally and emotionally exhausted with first, the Scott Walker Recall and then the bazillion negative political campaign ads (presidential and local). And let's not even mention the flood of e mails on the daily-Geezz!!!! However, I am pleased for the First Family to have another 4 years in the White House. I know many a Republican are not to happy and it seems as if "Hate" has sky rocketed, but if anything is going to get done, we must come together!!!!! It kills me how supposedly we want to leave a better country for our children, but then wont work with each other to achieve that goal! Go figure. As I am a Obama supporter I will leave it at that. On a final note, I am so please with all the 2012 Obama campaign memorabilia I've collected!!!!
I am finally back in the gym, have been for the last 5 weeks working hard! It's amazing how not working out for 4 months and not eating right can wreck havoc on your body. Yes, I could tell the difference in many ways. Diet is extremely important people, just as important as exercise. Yes, I was walking on most days, but not eating as well as I should have been. I am happy to be getting back on track and my body thanks me!
Winter is knocking so be prepared. Check on your elderly neighbors, be kind to the homeless and donate to the shelters! Give thanks for your blessings and be artful!!!!!
